6 companies allowed to ply 300 radio cabs

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration Monday allowed six private companies to ply 300 radio cabs in ICT limits and urban limits of Rawalpindi.

Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Khalid Pervez has allowed six companies to start modern air-conditioned radio cabs services in the first phase. In all, 12 companies had shown interest to launch their services.

All these 12 companies gave presentations to Transport Committee supervised by the Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad who issued Offer Letter to six companies. According to ICT sources, the permission is granted to each company on the specified terms and conditions.

Every company is required to start the operation of this service with a minimum of 50 cabs and these air- conditioned cabs will be of 800, 1000 and 1300 CC. They said 1300 CC cab will charge Rs. 13 per kilometre, 1000 CC cab to charge Rs. 10 per kilometre and 800 CC cab to charge Rs. 8 per kilometre.

These radio cabs will be operated strictly within the limits of ICT/urban limits of Rawalpindi. These vehicles will also be allowed to drop their passengers to other districts of Punjab, NWFP and AJK.

They said motor cars should be registered with the Motor Registration Authority Islamabad and all vehicles will have white colour and their monogram will be different colours which will be allowed by the Authority. Only Cabs of firm will get the fitness certificate after every six months from Motor Vehicle Examiner.

The digital fare meter will be installed and prescribed fare structure shall be displayed prominently.

They said company running the cabs under the scheme should have enough space for parking of its vehicles in commercial areas and this space should be arranged by the company by its own.—APP
