smart traffic signals

The Capital Development Authority would install smart signals at six different points in the city to automatically control road traffic according to its flow.

These signals would be installed at the busy Zero Point, T&T Chowk, Dhokri Chowk, Kulsoom Plaza, Faisal Chowk and Express Chowk, a CDA official said on Sunday.

The smart signals, with the help of sensors, change the traffic signal lights in accordance with the number of vehicles present on an intersection.

The government has introduced a new traffic police system in the Capital city to improve the road environment, adding, the traffic engineering was still the responsibility of the CDA.

The CDA was fast improving the roads structure constructing intersections, interchanges and underpasses to meet the growing traffic congestion in the city, he said.

The official said the the traffic police department also asked the CDA to enhance the performance of the security cameras installed at various points.

The security cameras would also monitor the traffic violations and all the record would be maintained at a central control room.

A British firm would provide consultancy in the execution of the plan and it would be implemented soon.
