Net cafe of an ‘influential’ person sealed

Police Wednesday have recovered narcotics from a net cafe in F-8 Markaz by conducting a raid on the complaint of a mother and arrested two employees while the owner managed to escape from the scene leaving his 10-year-old son behind, police said.

The owner of the net cafe stated to be an influential bureaucrat and deputy director of National Project of World Food Programme under the Ministry of Health. Assistant Commissioner (City) Dr. Ehtesham Anwar Maher received a complaint from a mother resident of F-8/1 saying that heroin and hashish were sold in a net cafe (Scorpio Gaming Cafe) located in basement of Al-Babar Centre, F-8 Markaz. She said that a large number of the youths, most of them students, have become a narcotic addict. She said that her young son was also among the victims of the narcotics. The ‘mother’ pointed out the place where the narcotics were hidden.

AC (City) Dr. Ehtesham while talking to ‘The News’ after the raid said that upon receiving the complaint, he took it as serious task to save the future of the young generation being spoiled by the voracious people.

He said that he took the area police with him and conducted the raid at the net cafe when some young students were playing different computer games and using net. He said at that time the owner of the net cafe Dr. Zafar Lodhi along with his 10-year-old son Sumair Zafar Lodhi, Muhammad Amin, manager of the café, and Muhammad Fayyaz, a worker, were present there. He said that representative of traders union were also joined the raid and the police recovered the narcotics in front of them.

However, Dr. Zafar Lodhi managed to escape from the scene leaving his son behind. The police, later, let the young boy to go home.

Sumair Zafar Lodhi, while talking to this scribe said that he was the student of 6th class in Roots School. He expressed his ignorance about the activities of his father.

Initially, the manager of the cafe resisted the raid saying that the police were insulting them. He contradicted that the narcotics were sold there but the police recovered ‘Garda’ (the harder form of hashish) from a cupboard near a bathroom, which was pointed out by the ‘mother’.

The AC (City) has sealed the net cafe while the police have arrested Muhammad Amin (manager) and Muhammad Fayyaz (worker) under Anti Narcotics Act. The police have nominated Dr. Zafar Lodhi as one of the main accused and started raiding for his arrest.

People of the surrounding areas told this scribe that Fayyaz, worker of the net cafe, had attempted to rape a 10-year-old boy in the bathroom but the people rescued the boy after breaking the door of the bathroom. Later, father of the boy thrashed him badly but didn’t informed the police.

SSP Islamabad Sikandar Hayat when contacted for comments by this correspondent said that the police would not spare any anti-social element and never accept any pressure from any influential person. He said that such people were responsible for spoiling lives and darkening future of our new generation.

    What kind of father would leave his son behind trying to flee the scene? What effect does that create on the child? And to top it off the dude is a Dr. (dont know what kind, real one or PhD Doc)
    Action should also be taken against those who were in demand not just the suppliers.
