High on Mountains – “Monal”

As Eid or a long weekend comes, Isloittes turn their cars towards Hills and mountains … since the latest beautifying developments in our very own margalla Hills, the road leading you up (Daman e Koh and Pir Sohawa) can be found highly crowded … so was the case today …!

Daman e KohLuckily, we headed for Daman e Koh just after Isha so it was Crowded YES but the traffic was non-stop till your destination … After spending some time in Islamabad-Seeing from Daman e Koh’s view point … and How Lovely Islamabad looked … Glittering …. Glimmering … Shining … reflecting life … and here I was saying to my cousin that PEOPLE STILL ASK WHY DO YOU LIVE IN ISLAMABAD AND WHY DO YOU LOVE IT SO MUCH … come to Islamabad …my dears … try to feel its SOUL … try to live its SOUL … try to breath into the life of Islamabad … You’ll know the answer …!!!!

Then, we decided to move a little bit further up towards Pir Sohawa … luckily the 14 KM path was not heavily crowded with cars though Pir Sohawa itself was bit jammed up with cars … we still found a very nice place for ca parking … first we roamed around Capital View Restaurant since the tikka and seekh kababs of this restaurant are really yum yum yum … so after finding a nice place with a classic view … i looked at opposite side … and it was like a big Naaaaaaaaaaaah … the Monal restaurant is next to capital view in fact it comes first but the under construction main hotel building gives you an impression as if its not fully done …

View From Pir Sohawabut the place we were sitting gave a perfect view of perfectly decored … stylized setting and what excellent view they were offering … so on my consistent appealing we got up and headed for The Monal …!

Monal is basically built on the concept of open air terraces, with ample space (200 + people were already sitting there) … the terraces are on different levels … fortunately we found a really nice … quite secluded … and on extreme edge (lower terrace) a place to get acomodated … we settled in … gave our order …!

It was chilly … a female singer with such toneless and emotionless voice was signing in the background … and the view was totally breathless …!

I would recommend it to everyone in full mood of

• Family fun (you know the mehfils where you kinda chill out, do all family gossips, crack jokes and stuff)
• Friends Outings (It’s relaxing … so if you really want to enjoy every moment then it’s the place)

The services was slow , now I’m not sure if it was the rush or what, he took some 40 minutes to bring 3 things and not to forget he forgot to bring our drinks and naaans. Plates were cold and even the food they brought was bit cold, only naans were warm.

The food was good, garlic naans were awesome … they are totally recommended … and another thing that I specially liked was Chicken Cheese Kababs … must eat …!

Billing Thing :)

Speaking of bill we paid … I guess they charge for the place and occasion too … prices were bit on high edge … but since we enjoyed so it was better off … if you are students you’ll have to pool a good amount .. Believe me!

Paan Waala:

Guess what the same Pan Wala who was first in Food Street Lahore them moved to Melody Food Park Islamabad was now here … the one who shower rose petals on you too … but I don’t like his Paan at all … just the show off factor is more … Paan’s not worth :~|

Changes Needed:

So they should do something to hurry up the food delivery time, platters should be warm as well as the food, AND THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE SINGER.

Pir Sohawa is 16 kilometers up on Margalla hilss while Daman e Koh is 4 kilometer drive from its starting Marghzar Point …!

Nevertheless, do try at your own Risk … ^_^

Gokina … Hmmm … honestly speaking I never knew … well that the place is Gokina … but now I guess everyone proclaims it to be Pir Sohawa … Thanks for Reality check :)

Are you referring to the point with police station and forest office and rest house to be true pir sohawa??

    Just wondering … !

Actually this place is not “Pir Sohawa” at all. It’s called Gokina. But as it has been used by the masses as such therefore people consider it Pir Sohawa anyway.

However the real Pir Sohawa is some 4 KM further if you continue on that same road. That will lead you another picnic spot with resturants and hotels and it’s in the vicinity of Bari Imam ridge. That place is the defacto Pir Sohawa. The good thing about that place is that it’s calmer, windier and more peaceful than Gokina. The food is good as well, and the views are better.

oh i thought the name of the place is View Point. the restaurant in Pir Suhawa is amazing as well. you have to sit in the basement rear seating … you have to take off your shoes and sit with “gao takkias” on the back facing the hills. its an amazing view specially when it rains.
