World Islamic Economic Forum – History

In view of the 2nd World Islamic Economic Forum being held in Islamabad from November 5 – 7, 2006, I thought maybe I could do something about informing myself and metrobloggers about what it is all about.

The first World Islamic Economic Forum was held from October 1 – 3, 2005 in Malaysia attended by heads of states and governments, ministers from several Muslim countries and many non-Muslim dignitaries. This World Islamic Economic Forum evolves from the OIC Business Forum, which was first held along with the 10th summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. The forum brought together more than 500 delegates from 44 countries with the aim of creating an Islamic equivalent of the World Economic Forum, held every year in the Swiss resort of Davos. Apart from the sessions themselves, specific sectoral workshops dealing with trade, investments, human capital development, Islamic banking and finance and tourism were held providing an opportunity for business interaction and networking.

This year the forum is opening under the theme of “Unleashing the Potentials of the Emerging Markets” and it will be organized jointly by Pakistan and the Asia Strategic and Leadership Institute (ASLI) based in Malaysia. Participants will discuss opportunities posed by emerging markets in the Muslim world in the sectors of trade, banking, finance, and capital markets and find ways to explore them to their full potential. The forum will also discuss joint initiatives with the industrialized world aimed at inviting more investment into Islamic countries.

To be continued…

“inviting more investment into Islamic countries” just a suggestion may b they could convince some of the sheiks to take out there money from Vegas and Invest in something Halal or may be next time they can have a jingle “your assets can be frozen over night in the west bring it over to an Islamic country and you won’t have to worry”
