Car Spotting: Hummer

Today I saw a Hummer in Islamabad, for the first time. This is was a Hummer looks like:
Its a 4×4 non-typical SUV, initially developed for the US Army. This vehicle was later marketed for public sale, and it sold alot. Famous people bought it as a stereo-typical symbol of their character and personalty; out-there, expressive and strong. One them is Arnold Schwarzenegger who bought it long before it was even made available for the general public. His Hummer has a yellow coat.

‘Hummer’ is a modified name given to the military vehicle classified as the ‘High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle’, or ‘Humvee’. As the name says, its an all terrain beast; snow, sand, water (and of course not air).

Hummer has had its nay-sayers, but with General Motors supplying these to the US Army, they can make it as expensive or unreachable as they want. They already have a very good customer. It has a huge price tag, not to forget the after sale cost of the car… 1 gallon permile or something. Environmentalists etc. Its a hobby, and usually hobbies don’t need justifications; in money or in time.

Currently, GM is trying to sell H3 which is Hummer 3, the second brother of Hummer or H1, which was followed by H2 or Hummer 2. Its an interesting vehcile to look at – big wheels, boxy contours, big grills, roll bars, and its astounding elevation off the ground. I love cars to the extent of spotting them and admiring them from afar.

On second thought, Ustad Rustam, why not post about the car you spotted in your Car Spotting post? Would make an interesting series. Plus try to add photos and if possible, try having a chat with the owner to get his views. I know a few cars like RX-8 would certianly appear more, but heck, if its unique, its worth the post.

Asma, man you are too good… at being funny. Coz literally, this thing can be called the ‘hammer’ of its category.

Waah, kamal idea! So do able, I am sure we are keep observers and can certianly spot some vintage stuff around. But only report it the day you see it… otherwise there is not us of actually ‘spotting’ something if you cant explain how it looked on the day. What the day was like, and where and what you were doing.
