Rock Climbing in the Margallas

Getting%20the%20grip.jpgMargalla Hills offer ample opportunities for rock climbers. The walls here are of varying heights, and have different technical sections. In addition to that due to texture of rocks these walls offer a varied degree of challenges to climbers. Following are some of the highlights of what these hills have to offer

Type of Climb: Bouldering
Type of Rock: Metamorphic
Range of difficulty: 5.4 – 5.11d
Description: Margalla hills have an approximate height of 5000ft above sea level and they have huge opportunities for exploration in the high caves that exist on several walls. The hills have abundant wild life and wild cats are often seen roaming at will. During the climbs in we have reached unmarked regions and sure enough there is much more to be explored in these hills. However you may encounter some real tough walls in these bouldering areas.

Type of Climb: Sport/Trad
Type of Rock: Metamorphic
Range of difficulty: –
Description: Charan is another village that exists near the originating point of river sawan. There is an ancient fort and an old deserted battle field. Huge boulders and metamorphic rocks are there just besides the river and sometimes you have to approach the rock to climb after a little swim. This area provides excellent adventure and rock climbing facilities

Said Pur
Type of Climb: Top Rope
Type of Rock: Metamorphic
Range of difficulty: 5.7 – 5.10d
Description: Said pur is a village besides Islamabad at the foot of Margalla hills, and is of ancient repute. There are several boulders along with huge rocks to climb upon, reaching heights of 150 ft, and providing a good challenge to the climber.

Is there any rock climbing clinic in ISB? Adventure Foundation or other? Please do features on adventure sports foundations/ societies too, especially those who teach novices.

    More, more!
