New Year’s Celeberations

fireworks.jpgWith the New Year Eve approaching, preparations for celeberations are already under way in Islamabad. This year’s new year has special signifcance as it overlaps with the Eid celeberations.

Usually party enthusiasts in Islamabad either belong to the diplomatic community or the elite of the city, who would drink, dance and make merry throughout the night. We also have the youth of the city who usually welcome the New Year by roaming the roads of the city through the night.

Special parties are being scheduled in the Islamabad club, Marriot, UN, Canadian Club and the Diplomatic Enclave. Most of them would be private parties with guest invitations through passes only.

Each year, hospitals receive scores of severely injured victims of ‘New Year night’ mostly belonging to our youth. One-wheeling caused numerous accidents in the past on the same night.

With winter vacations and all, people usually migrate to their hometowns. Especially the case this year is that there is going to be the Eidul Azha as soon as the New Year turns, so that would mean that cities, especially Islamabad, are going to be pretty empty.

That is always a very sad part of holidays. The capital city becomes as silent as the city, where the dead are likely to walk, which only happens because most people of Islamabad are not rooted there.

With New Year, the best part is that both the cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad are decorated with neon lights. You name it; the bazaars, all the official buildings, and most of all the fireworks are a blast. As soon as the clock turns a second above 12 midnight, ‘boom boom boom’ are the sounds heard and the sky lights up with these colourful fire works.

So what do you people out there have in plan for the New Year’s Celeberations?
