CDA May Cancel Contract For Islamabad Highway

The Capital Development Authority in principle has decided to cancel contract for rehabilitation of Islamabad Highway from Rawat to Airport Chowk, because the contractor has failed to complete required work in given time.
The contractor was awarded Rs. 321 Million contract for rehabilitation of one-side 12 KM portion of highway in August 2005 and the work was to be completed in one year.
The CDA was facing a lot of criticism from the general public due to the slow pace of the work, so far less than 50 percent of the work is completed.
The contract was canceled, a few days back but on request of the contractor, he had been given another 7 to 10 days to show progress on work failing with which the contract would be canceled. The CDA has already imposed a penalty of Rs. 3.5 Million on the contractor for slow pace of work.
The same contractor also embarrassed CDA after it was awarded Rs. 1.5 Billion for the development of Sector I-15, on which the development is yet to start.
The CDA might blacklist the contractor.

Good. They should get rid of the current contractor and get a more competent firm/contractor.
