Gateway To The Capital

The Islamabad district administration will launch a project titled ‘Gateway Islamabad’ for beautifying Rawat. Under the project, headed by the Islamabad assistant commissioner (rural), will launch various development schemes in Rawat, as it is a gateway to the city for people coming from Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The administration will help plant trees and green belts will be developed on the GT Road. The administration will soon declare Jawa Road, Rawat’s main road, as one-way to eliminate traffic jams in Rawat Bazaar, while bus and wagon stands would be shifted outside Rawat as well. Under the project, more sanitation staff will be hired to ensure cleanliness in the area. The administration will also remove encroachments from Rawat Bazaar and from various bus stops in the area. The administration has said that it had prepared a list of encroachers and issued notices to them and an operation would be started against them after the deadline. Work on an underpass at GT Road for pedestrians in the area is also expected to start next month.
