Education- Mullah Style!

Education-%20Mullah%20Style.jpgReligious parties in Pakistan’s National Assembly are contesting the teaching of Pakistan’s pre-Islamic history in schools. Members of the six-party Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) staged a token protest walkout Wednesday over the inclusion of chapters about Hinduism, Buddhism and the ancient emperor Chandragupta Maurya in the history textbooks for senior classes after a heated discussion.

Five MMA members had raised the history textbook issue through a call-attention notice, but their claim that the inclusion of chapters they considered objectionable had caused a “grave concern amongst the public” was disputed by education minister Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli and some other ruling coalition members, who accused the religious parties of seeking to keep students ignorant about glorious periods of the sub-continent’s history such as the Indus Valley or Gandhara civilisations

But the authors of the notice described the changes as part of what they saw as a government attempt to secularise the educational curricula.

“That may be your history, (but) … our history (starts) from Mecca and Medina,” MMA member Farid Ahmad Piracha shouted as he led his alliance’s walkout when the sessio chairman allowed party a Muslim League MP to voice his support for the chapters even after the speaker had referred the matter to a house standing committee for more discussion .

The speaker repeatedly said there was no harm in studying pre-Islamic history for the sake of knowledge as he and his contemporaries did in schools, colleges and universities but, to an apparent surprise of the treasury benches, accepted an MMA demand to refer the matter to the standing committee, which the alliance members could use to continue the controversy.

Can anyone with a rational mind come forward with comments on the above statement by the guardians of Islam in the upper echelons of power here in the Capital? Does anyone human civilization to progress in terms of knowledge if it were to follow implications dictated above?

I say let’s follow MMA up on their demand and take it further to other aspects of knowledge.

Let’s ban all science before and after Muslim era as well as all gadgets not invented by Muslims. Let’s see how quickly Mullahs will be prepared to give up their publicly funded cars, plane rides, mobiles and so on.

@What is mY History: Where have you heard the word bastardization? Look up its meaning before you start using such difficult words.

History is not your own family’s name. Feel free to include the history till adam if you can fit in 10/12 years. If not, fit as much as you can.

Well I think that keeping one ignorant about the world is not the right way in educating any one .But the way the information is provided .Yes there is nothing wrong in learning about pre-islamic civilisations.but promoting the same is a problem being a humble muslim i believe that knowledge should be communicated in a manner that it further enhance the beauty and purity of Islamic religion and culture based on Islamic teachings.Focus should remian teh same .
Moderate Islam or a moderate muslim if teh definition is different from that of Islam and true Muslim .it definitely is not acceptable. Please talk some snese when you are giving statements .Mullah is not a bad name in itself .it is a respectable title. But the people carrying these titles differ in the levl of right knowledge and teachings of islam ,and faith .its equally you call all your brethern muslims ,some name .but all are not alike.
