The Parking Dilema

parking%20problem.jpgThe Capital Development Authority (CDA) continues to develop new roads to cater to Islamabad’s increased traffic flow, yet it remains oblivious to a problem of another kind that is spiralling out of control.

Finding a proper place to park anywhere in the city is becoming increasingly difficult, leading motorist to use roads as parking lots. Indeed, it is not uncommon to see rows and rows of vehicles parked on both sides of a dual carriageway. Many say the blame lies with planners, who have failed to address increased traffic flows.

And even though some parking areas have been created, especially in the busy Blue Area, the number of vehicles is far too great for them to accommodate.

As a result, roads become the prime target area for parking, along with green belts.

An example of how rampant this practice has become can often be seen at the Aga Khan Road that runs alongside the Pakistan Television Headquarters. Each day rows of cars parked in a no-parking zone are lifted and placed on the median.

While toeing away vehicles and issuing parking tickets might help to some extent, the long-term solution would be to construct multi-storey car parks and other spacious parking areas

Pointing out the issues is great but it is only half the equation. We (all) must also come up with suggestions and solutions. Here are my two cents on this, this could be one of the solutions:

Another thing is that we have to have high-end quality mass transportation system like double-decker busses running on Ethanol or flex fuels. so people dont have to drive everywhere.

purple haze.thanks for the link.well that really is a good solution.i earlier had some thing in my mind similar to this but that was a different idea not for parking but for a resturant .i had this idea about capsule type moving seating arrangements which constantly are moving up and down ofcourse between teh roof and the floor and not on multiple floors. This could give more privacy for family gatherings ,or any of teh people who prefer that besides the nuisanace ,loud laugh on one table , birthday claps on an otehr , one can avoid that besides a new entertaining idea .in each capsule one can have LCD or music imagine food in a mobile capsule .even variants of seating arrangement can be done .just a raw thought .

Nosheen, good idea, I would think that the movement would be very subtle so people dont feel sick while eating. By the way good ideas must be patented asap to keep others from capitalizing on them. I have some ideas too about a restaurant. If you want to brainstorm about innovative solution maybe we can do that. Other thinkers r welcome :)
