Pedestrians With Wings

Puddle%20Of%20Mud.jpgWhile the CDA has declared the ongoing year as the ‘Year of Pedestrians’, there is hardly any pavement that is not encroached upon, either by vendors or by driveways of private houses.

On top of it a combination of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) negligence, its inefficient contractors and rain has turned Islamabad into a muddy town making life difficult for residents especially those who have to walk the walk through puddles of mud. I tried to walk from F-7 Jinnah Super to F-6 Super market last night, just to experiment how much mud my shoes gather, and I was shocked with the results. I can safely say that no one would have welcomed me into their posh carpeted drawing room from the look of my shoes.

Tonnes of soil excavated from work sites lies piled up everywhere. The existing roads are covered with mud that makes driving difficult especially when it rains and the pedestrians have nowhere to go.

The projects have been poorly planned and none has so far been completed on time. To make matters worse, the CDA now seems set on initiating several new projects during the next fiscal year that starts this June.
The latest such scene is China Chowk where work on building another underpass began more than a week ago and is certain to compound the problem.

Again, with work not having been completed on the 7th Avenue underpasses, starting off a new project barely one kilometer away only goes to show that the town planners care little for public convenience. Though CDA officials claim that the projects underway were for the future convenience of the public, there seems little sense in digging up the entire length and breadth of the town. It would have been appropriate if the CDA had proceeded step by step in developing new roads

lesson learnt then that walking in mud’s not a good idea :P

And i so much agree here that with one underpass still not completed – they’ve started cleaning up for the second underpass meaning a complete mess … the faisal avenue’s flyover is in full bloom too ….. lets see when this construction scene subsides … I’m quite fed up of muddy roads of Islamabad :|
