Zios, as a son of a serving General and someone who has grown up seeing these so called 'dumb people with stars on their shoulders', I beg to differ with your 'microscopic' understanding of Pakistan Army. I in fact take it as an insult that you deem the entire institution to be the single-digit IQ herd that you believe they are. Unfortunately, your vision seems to be severely impaired by the acts of a few people and you fail to see the big picture. If only your so called politicians would manage to keep their end of the bargain, we would not need to step forward and take up the role of a nanny time and again! Believe you me, Army doesn't give a damn about running the Govt but we DO follow orders and if they come from our Chief then going against them is insubordination... something that civilians just can't seem to get their head around!

As for the power-struggle... well my friend, its not the Army Generals who have fallen to its charm but almost everyone who has ever sat on the chair! Don't blame the individuals... blame the system and the practice!

Please try to be more specific in your arguments next time because just like not all women are prostitutes and not all mullahs are fanatics, all the Army is NOT dumb and stupid!

yes
Yes
Yes
No
Doom*

*<em> Answers are based on previous experiences and statistics. Its hard for me to predict without the crystal ball but who needs crystal ball for Mrs. Zardari and Mr. Shareef.<em>

Problem with army is that every dumb person with the stars think that he knows better than others. I agree that at barracks level their vision might be good specially when no junior can tell them they are wrong. When they come to the real open world they get fascinated but can't let go their idiocracy. :-)

Musharraf I think is a patriot at heart but he did not have vision. But I have to give him credit for the taste of democracy and freedom of speech that Pakistanis got during his period. I grew up during Zia's period and it was simply horrible!, you could not talk about him in public place. BB should win a Nobel prize for being characterless at this level. Shareef, who can forget his love and respect for judiciary when his followers stormed the Supreme court. For both of these Pakistan is the easiest way to more money.

Only one person in Pakistani politics has some weight in what he says....Imran Khan, but he does not have team who can win seats for him.

I liked it till the point where superman was mentioned...

Which just means that I either don't have a political opinion about this (which I do), or I don't want to risk flaming on this post. :)

A very well written post Talha.

The biggest irony is when General Elections will come the same people, thrashing BB and NS (if he ever make it to Pakistan) now, would be voting for none but these two. Nawaz Sharif with his re-exile' already become a victim of musharaf and the dictator rule.

Pakistan since its birth suffered in hands of her rulers. We greet every new person with open hearts and prayers ... shake our heads in affirmation for few starting months, feeling happy at the so-called progress the govt make then the reality starts showing its ugly face.

Everything dissolves and a corrupt face reveals from the veiled sanity. As happened in Musharraf's case ... personally i think he still is not bad ... but for past two years or so ... he's become power thirsty, not willing to give up the ruling authority hence everyone hates him now. If he'd have left the army chief's chair couple of years back and may have contested, I'm sure he'd have been HAPPILY elected president now ... that's not going to be the case now. He will become president but may not have nation's goodwill with him now.

BTW, if NS comes back the rate of his LOOTIFYING is still way too low than BB's. She has some Guts that NS seriously lacks in. I wonder if BB will make another palace to fill up with remains of Taxila and other gems even we Pakistanis are not aware of.

Tragedies!
