Upcoming Event – NIMS Fashion Show 2007

The NUST Institute of Management Sciences is organizing its largest fashion show ever on November 26th, 2007. The show is called Schism, and its theme is the merging of two contrasts to make a whole – the Angel and the Demon within every man. According to the organizers, it will consist of a series of segments taking the audience through various stages of a man’s life: the teenager, the man, the innocent, the dark – an exploration of all his hidden facets, all those sides of him that few ever get to see. The tagline of the show is, ‘Know the secrets of life.’

Fascinating concept, isn’t it? There’s a lot of potential for creativity gone wild with a theme like that, and it would be really interesting to see what they’ve done with it. I think one thing that would really make this event worth going to is that it’s being organized entirely by BBA students – and apparently they’ve been working really hard, as you can see on the official websites.

Interestingly, the show is being staged exclusively for a female audience – though all the models will of course be male.

It will be held on Monday, November 26, 7:00pm – 10:00pm, at the NUST Institute of Management Sciences, Tamiz-ud-Din Road, Rawalpindi. Tickets are Rs. 150 each. And remember, you need to be female to get in. =)

I’m in NIMS (no, not an organizer… I’m a year behind the final year, and this is the final years’ project) and I’ll tell you why it’s male models with female audience: it’s the army, in case you didn’t know. They have issues with girls modelling and showing themselves public, and they have issues with guys hooting at the girls. The university students are allowed to view (boys or girls, duh!) but for outsiders, it’s strictly females only, due to morality issues.

Even during the promotion that was taking place in the campus, only guys were allowed to actively indulge themselves with the audience, not girls. It’s the NUST policy.

A friend of mine’s modelling in it, and many friends of mine (in the senior year) are organizing it. The picture’s a stock photo (so for those who think it’s a proper NIMS guy, think again…) since it’s not really possible to find anyone who’d do that for a university project/function. And I can’t find this guy anywhere in the university. So there’s proof! :)

It might be worth mentioning that there was another fashion show that took place last year, and PTV was there. This year, there’s someone else covering it. So technically speaking, it’s PTV-safe.

And I thought Shahrukh Khan was pathetic in Om Shanti Om…

    @Talha, lol! LOL LOL LOL!

Btw, this will be the first fashion show I’m attending as a student (there was another one last year, but didn’t go to it since I thought it was dumb). This time, I’m going since all my friends pressurized me to buy the tickets, so I did. Other friends of mine are going… anyway….

I’d like to see how they execute it. Last time around, they said it was very good. This will be my first experience.

    quite a STUPID website….no doubt :p

Believe me when I say that the guy in this picture is better than the models. Any doubts? ->www.nims.edu.pk/fashion->model portfolios. I’m no Brad pitt, but I can do a better job coming straight out of bed. A “Fashion show” is all about the models and thier attitude. Maybe you didnt have enough volunteers, or maybe no one screened them, either way, they dont fit the “modelling” profile one would expect from a media covered “fashion show”.

Also, I think your web presence makes a lot more difference and hype than the real thing. You should have either made a good website (the formatting and the fonts are horrible, most of them dont even fall in thier borders) or not have made a website all together. And to think there are people actually marketing it based on that website :s

Anyways, I think its just a semester project for you people at NIMS and I’m sure all of you have put a lot of time and energy into it. If you couldve just dented out these minor details, it wouldve come out a lot better. Good luck!

P.S ‘To all the “Male models and only female audience” crowd, trust me, none of them are going there candy shopping :p’

I don’t know how “Schizm” does come in handy being a topic as it’s the total opposite of the theme, i.e merging.

    Am I making some sense?

  11. A for [pine]Apple (unregistered) on November 26th, 2007 @ 1:54 pm

talha, Schism’s also “separation or division into factions” so ain’t this the case here??

I’ve more provocative thing in my mind to express why they chose SCHI SM – better not tell here ;-)

  12. Talha (unregistered) on November 26th, 2007 @ 3:54 pm

    Exactly my point.

    Schizm is division, NOT merging!!!

Did you even read the post carefully?

It was a very pleasant surprise. A stunning show and a wholly enjoyable evening. The folks from Karma were there as guests of honour, by the way, and they were absolutely gushing. Great reviews overall too, I think you’ll find some of those on the Net. Good on the NIMS students who organized the event. =)
