So a lot happened in the last 24 hours, but I am sorry that we could not keep this updated as life has to go on. Your comments and emotions tell me that we still have conscience.
From UAVs to more sporadic firing to Ulema and Politicians along with renowned social workers heading to the Lal Masjid to make a final plea to Maulana Sahib to let the authorities in and let go of the children and women inside, there still seems to be some stalemate between the two sides. And yes, not to forget the rotting corpses inside! God! The inhumanity! What was left was for the District Session Judge to arrive at the scene and make a ‘request’ to the criminals inside to give up. I certainly hope these are the last formalities that the government is undertaking, this is way beyond challenging the writ of the government. Maulana Sahib come out!
Both the sides had agreed that they would be no further dialog, but it seems they are pussy-footing on both ends. The pro-government elements have a clear stance. Law and order, safety of children and women, and elderly as one has already committed suicide, and putting an end to the defamation of Islam, Mosques, and Muslims!
Innocents do not need to hide from the law, the LAW, as it was made, was made to protect the innocent, right Maulana Sahib? So here they are! Bad boys, bad boys, watchya gonna do?… and so on.
There have been reports from inside that they have already distributed 15 jackets amongst themselves. These are suicide jackets. Reverse creativity in Pakistan is very common, where nations try to prefect ‘life jackets’, these madmen have developed ’suicide jackets’… When is the summer sale, God damn it!? One cannot stop short of recognizing this as a suicide cult.
Till any further development ladies and gentlemen, we wait and see, as this whole episode enters its 2nd week tomorrow while slowly eating away at any braincells that are left. Enjoy, with utter distaste I say!

Severe firing continues from the direction of Lal Masjid. Earlier two tall burqa clad women were arrested from the vicinity of Lal Masjid. Government reports confirm presence of some of the leading terrorists having links to Al- Qeeda in the premises of Lal Masjid.

Immense emotion fills me up when I think of the people that have died on the either side of this conflict. While one being in the capacity of delivering pictures to the outside world, I take this time to say a little prayer for Lt. Col. Haroon Islam, a son of Lahore. His funeral was held yesterday in Chaklala. Thank you LMB :_(

There was a slight confusion about the days and dates of the Operation. The gun snatching incident took place on 3rd July, the operation began on the 4th, the hence it is the 6th day today. Anyways, that was a slight digression for a disambiguation.

An Afghan intelligence source told the BBC four senior associates of Mullah Omar were being held after operations by Pakistani security forces.The arrests took place in two areas of the city of Quetta in western Pakistan.
While 3 Chinese foriegners have tragically been killed, or rather murdered by anti -state factions in Peshawar, while one managed to escape.
The women were accused by the mosque students of involvement in prostitution and were only freed after the authorities promised to shut down certain massage parlours in the capital.Chinese workers have also been targeted in recent years by separatist militants in the western province of Balochistan.
Three Chinese engineers were shot dead in the province in February last year.

Interesting note from interview with Ejahiz (sp?) al Haq at Financial Times:
In an FT interview on Sunday, Ijaz ul-Haq, religious affairs minister, said that up to five hardliners with a long history of involvement in militancy had seized control of the Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque, and its adjoining women’s seminary known as Jamia-e-Hifza, while Abdul Rashid Ghazi, chief cleric of the mosque was “no more than a pawn who is being told not to accept any compromise”.

The “mysterious” aircraft is a Predator drone. I was surprised by that as I know that Pakistan manufactures drone, but I didnt know it possesed the Predator as well. The Predator has advanced surveillance capabilities.

Surprisingly, there are only two casualties from govt side so far (one ranger lance-naik and one SSG Lt. Col.). Either the Lal Masjid guys are poor shooters or they haven’t got that much ammunition as propagated by the govt.
For Strategic and political reason, govt will not share this information with the commoners. Usually the injured to kill ratio for these sort of situations are 1:8 or 1:10. So there is no doubt in my mind that CMH in Pindi is loaded with poor Naik’s right now.

Govt needs to wrap this up Monday night. Ghazi is a fanatic and is surrounded by fanatics. He is not going to surrender, and govt should start thinking about how many hostages it can save.
This is bad, all of this. The government is killing its own people. I understand that the clerics and the students of Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid were wrong taking law in their own hands, but their intentions and reactions were nothing but natural and right. They involved the government and other people (press, tv, scholars, experts, etc.) to eradicate and stop the devilish nuisances of prostitution, drinking and other forms of degeneracy taking visible shape in our soceity, but no action(s) were taken against them. In fact, the govt. had issued these entities legal licenses. Now, how could the govt. stop these activities to go on when it has itself legally recognized their businesses. To a large extend, I believe that the reaction of the govt. against Jamia Hafsa’s clerics and students is unjustified and unethical. It seems that each day passes, the government injustices and incapabilities are being exposed. God knows who are on Musharraf’s advisory board, who have shown such examples of immorality and immaturity.
Dispute is not about the immorality in Islamabad. If that was the case, Bari aunty would never embarrassed himself and his family on the second day of operation. He was irrational from day one. Just look his interview with Hamid Mir.
This is actually a land dispute between the Maulana brothers and CDA, dispute went south and the brothers started using little girls for their own benefit in disguise of Islam.
Now the younger has to defend the honor of family, which was violated by the older brother and in order to restore that honor, these bastards are ready to sacrifice 400 little girls.
Trust me, these brothers are not rational. They are abusing name of Islam for their own advantage. If they were just and right, the whole nation would stood by them just like they did with CJ.

Babar - Well spotted. Like older brother, like younger brother. Only personal egos, interests and aggrandizement matter for the mullah brothers. They give two hoots to the welfare and safety of their impressionable disciples, who they have indoctrinated that they are fighting for the “glory of Islam”. Even a blind freddy can now see the only cause these terrorists are fighting for is an extremely narrow utopian agenda, which demands death and blood of the innocent. No true interpretation of any religion could justify violence, deceit, treachery and pig-headedness, which is at display at Lal Masjid. It is simply amazing to listen to the constant doublespeak Mulla Sheeda has been shooting out (no pun intended) in his daily interviews; he has been blowing hot and cold in the hope he might be able to get off the hook again as in past. Not so this time, surely.
Mulla Sheeda has expressed not an iota of remorse on the loss of life he has caused so far due to his obduracy and sheer blackmailing. No compunctions whatsoever on keeping women and children hostage to bargain his personal freedom. No qualms in using MADarASSa girls as his pawns (it is completely another matter that he is never tired of preaching respect for women).
Now that he does not have a choice left, he is announcing that he would die, rather than surrender, but he will never do that. His brother escaped in a burka and justified it on religious grounds - I am still laughing, hahaha - and Sheeda will be ready to lick Musharraf’s boots if the general gives a hint of pardoning him. Remember it was only a couple of years back that Mulla Sheeda gave an affidavit that he would refrain from harbouring and supporting terrorists, when he was detained for anti-state activities. He lied. The Mulla, a torchbearer of religion, lied. To avoid jail and to save his back. The coward will do so again, only if the government can offer him clemency. In your dreams.

Isn’t it ironic that on one hand govt cuts off power, water and gas of Lal Masjid and its surroundings (that accommodate thousands) and on the other hand Maulana Ghazi (and his family members, according to news sources) are allowed free use of phones. Ghazi is having a hell of prime time calling one channel after the other. He is even offered to hold a ‘telephonic khitab’ at Islamabad press club. Why on earth is it allowed? To keep public attention glued?
Mullahs say that Islam allows one to escape in disguise to save one’s skin, like what Abdul Aziz did. Mullahs say one Islam allows one to lie in a war-like situation, like Abdul Rashid Ghazi’s present double-speak and past false declarations of not harbouring any terrorists. They can justify their lies and they can justify cowardice all in the name of Islam! And still there are people who find no fault with them. Amazing!
According to the online survey on The News website, an alarming 34 % have voted that they support what Lal Masjid is doing in the current scenario. However, one user can vote multiple times. I guess some of these terrorists also have well-wishing cyber-terrorist friends.
I was just wondering what EME’s have to say about the PM (Pervez Musharraf)’s U-Turn on talking to ARG (Abdul Rashid Ghazi). Until day before yesterday all the PM’s men were saying that they are not going to talk to ARG and he must surrender there is no other option. But now they are giving him 5 options not one. Is it due to death of the “SSG” Colonel? BTW I have my idea why this U-TURN but would definitely like to know first from PM’s supporter what they are going to say about it.

When he came into power I heard him defending Jihadi movements all around the world and confronting west on their policies, we all saw how he took that U turn on Afghan policy. we all know about the U turn on Kashmir. 1. Until 6th/7th July PM is not willing to hold any talks with ARG. And everybody in PM’s camp is giving ARG only one option i.e. surrender unconditionally. No talks period.
2. PM’s issues a naked threat surrender or die.
3. On the night of Friday Mr. Haroon is wounded and next night there is haviest bombardment on Jamia Hafsa this is very well documented on IMB. Same night the news is broken about Mr. Haroon’s death.
4. ARG says that 300+ people have been killed inside. And the same day there is choppers hovering over the Jamia Hafsa taking pictures and then UAV goes and takes pictures in the night.
5. And all of a sudden Gov. realiazed that there are innocent people inside. Every tom dick and harry in the government now pleads ARG to release those who he has taken as hostage.
I do hope that ARG’s is arrested alive and the true story inside the Masjid comes out through media. But I am afraid that after these negotiations with ARG he will be allowed to go on the condition of hiding the true story about the deaths inside the mosque.
This siege now enters its second week, but the similar one in the Lebanon is now in its eighth week.
I fear the hostages (even though they may not all be as “innocent” as claimed) are having a bad time.
As Beslan and the Moscow theatre incident showed, it is very hard to extract the hostages from these situations unharmed.
Information minister Durrani says that six parents have been taken hostage when they went in there to see their kids.

I think the militants will come out victorous out of this in the end , perhaps because of their ability to be able to kill those women and children.
Apart from that I am pretty sure that maulana aziz will also be free as soon as Musharraf goes, or even before that. The establishment has too many sympethizers for them. How can they cut out one of their arm for good. The mullahs are here to stay. And also our courts have a long history of not convicting religious people.
The court orders to send ulema to give them a safe passage. It reminded me of our beloved chief justics who is going around the Pakistan nowadays for the freedom of courts. During his days of activism and when he was functional and in full swing, addressing to a seerat ul nabbi conference, the esteemed judge declared that “in Pakistan we dont need parliament and law making. We already have Quran. There should just be a board of ulema who could interpret Quran.” What a joke to the idea of democracy and the already screwd up, single institute meant to represent people. But it doesnt surprise me. This has been the attitude of pakistani establishment all along.
This would probably be my last comment for a few days. I would just see and hope that the people inside come out safe. Any action against the extremism, I dont hope for at all right now. All we can take home from this incident is the exposure of the mullahs in the eyes of people. And that itself is quite an achievment. Our struggle is long to live in a free country.

you were right these were just formalities to end this drama.
Some people don’t seem to speak against West or Americans openly because either one or more of their members are living in the West or their interests lies in travelling between West and East.
In this case the relatives of such families are hostages in the so call free societies and such societies have made it hostage like situation for the immigrants of any country who stands against the atrocities by their new country they live in. In coming years we will see a huge immigration crisis in the history for Muslims, where they will be left stranded without human rights in the countries who are famous in given equal rights. Among such people in America are a very few people who are struggling for the better image of Islam, seem to compromise for the faith and belief they have been ordered by Islam to follow.
Let me be honest. There are considerable number of people who are stepping back from the basic Islamic practices and refraining to perform them just because they want to live at some place peacefully.
Now for those who were born in Pakistan and lived all their lives in Pakistan without whatsoever contact or interaction with the West seem to have inclination towards Western cultures and want to imitate them in any way possible. We can see ourselves copy the trends of west without differentiating between right and wrong.
Such example of military action against the so called terrorists is a fine example of imitation of American media (after 911) at our Govt level. Media coverage being given to a dispute at domestic level is exaggerated to look like an international issue, just to get attention of USA,UK,China and other western nations.
We all know that this “thought” which we have just started calling extremism that leads to terrorism, has protected our nation from invaders planning to defame our religion “Islam”. Iraq had a huge army, but why did they not defend till death. It is because they had lost faith in their leaders and surrendered at the end without a fight. Most of the Armies now a days are show piece but our Pakistan’s Army has the capability to fight till death and we trust in our leaders as well. We shouldn’t let these incidents defame our army. I think we should recruit all the Jahadi Movement leaders and warriors in the army as well and train them and make them civilized. Just like when a hacker is hired in FBI as he sabotage a system, or the water meant to destroy is stored in dams to get power.
Western strategy planners (protectionists) know that we are weak in terms of defense so they don’t need to encounter us in the battlefield, they can just achieve their objectives through our own people.
Now many think “Americans” are friends. I am sure their nation is not our enemy but when it comes to our own nation protection we need any kind of defensive power in the stand by to encounter any foreign invasion whether it is invasion of thought or invasion of land, we need to respond with positive attitude.
It is the policies that their nation votes for under pressure of imminent threat from us. Such threats are conveyed by meida to them by their own political figures who they trust.
Now is the time to take actions to defend the National Unity and instead of negotations with the Jihadists we should negotiate with Americans (since they are the real invaders)

I have just one question. If ghazi rasheed now goes home, who is then responsible for the death of Colnel Islam? Why didnt they give in to his demands the very first day so that Colnel didnt have to die?
Either the operation was launched without any clear objectives and strategy, or the ghazi arm twisted the mighty army into changing its mind and not achieving operational objectives.

PTV should know that taking only part of Surah’s out of Quran without informing people about the context is telling lie against Allah. I alert PTV to stop using Quranic Verses to prove that what our Govt is doing is right.

The power to influence the minds of little children through a distorted interpretation of Quran and Hadith is a potent force, and it is bound to have “corrupting” consequences for those who hold such power. Ghazi brothers are not the first and definitely not the last to succumb to this.
Some of us love to blame Americans, Indians and Jews (and every one else) for our problems. The blame game is great, since it excuses us from accepting our own very serious and very endemic mistakes. Our mistakes in failing in our collective responsibility as a society in creating a good system of education for the most impoverished members of our society.
We will have to pay the price, and we will continue to unfortunately pay the price until and unless we own up to our responsibilities and stop blaming outsiders for our own self-imposed 500+ year Dark Age, that continues to this day!
The sad part is that it is always the most impoverished within any society who pay the real price. While the demagogues use their suffering to promote cynicism within the society — fitna!

Pakistani security forces began storming an Islamic seminary within a mosque in Islamabad on Tuesday, where militant Islamists have holed themselves up.
“An operation has been launched to get the Red Mosque evacuated. Commandoes have entered the mosque,” Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Wahid Arshad told reporters amidst series of explosions at the mosque.
There are believed to be some 1,000 people, including women and children, inside the mosque, stirring concern about the possibility of mass casualties.
Twenty-four people have so far been killed in the weeklong standoff between the militant religious students and security forces.

Twenty children escaped from the compound of a radical mosque in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday after security forces launched an operation to clear it of militants, the military said.
“Twenty children have managed to escape during the fire. An intense engagement is going on with the militants,” said military spokesman Major-General Waheed Arshad.

They asked for it. The stable needs to be cleaned to eliminate this scourge of terrorism once and for all. This military operation will send the right signal to mullahs across the country.
This crisis is the time to line up behind the army. There will be other opportunities to air political differences with the state institution.
