At around 1710, EMERGENCY RULE IMPOSITION occurred in Pakistan by his Highness, err, COAS Pervaiz Musharraf.
News Channels are OFF-air in all major cities (as news are suggesting). PTV still ON, obviously.
So, the crackers fired ON-&-OFF by Sheikh Rasheed were right.

Bravo-The Superior Judiciary of Pakistan. No matter what the outcome of this treasonous government’s most recent attack on Pakistan, the chief justice and his colleagues have given me some hope that all is not lost in Pakistan.
This should not come as a surprise, the US CENTCOM cheif was in Islamabad on Thursday giving out his orders.
Isn’t Musharraf still the COAS, technically speaking until and unless the SC passed its verdict?

I just travelled to London on Friday and am watching Dr Shahid on GEO!… he’s going crazy over the news coming out of Islamabad. Benazir arrived back in Karachi a few moments ago. The fact that she was allowed to come back under martial law is bad enough for her supporters (its not emergency by any means however much the Generals want to dress this up - when the General declares emergency its called martial law).
If she becomes the next PM that will be her political career finished…

The entire speech is laughable after he mentions Abraham Lincoln broke all the rules, violated the constitution, suspended liberties (all of which he didnt do) to preserve the federation.. “therefore limbs must be amputated to save a life” way to go General… lets start amputating!

Saeeduzzaman Siddiqi and other 5 judges (elevated to SC from SHC) refused. Why no lawyer-led protests were taken out for them?

This will give legitimicy to the terrorists. If Musharraf can kick all constitution and laws on the basis of gun, why cant they?
If it were some political leader who realy beleived that judiciacary is interfering, he/she would have addressed the nation and probably announced elections or resigned to come back with more political power, or something like that. But to do away with the whole constituion. But ofcourse, an army man doesnt think like that. He beleives once he is gone he will never come back.
Aitazaz and his creed have equal responsibility for this. What on earth were they thinking? When your enemy is weak, that is the best time to talk him out and get most. But they wanted his head immediately. Why on earth , when he was going to remove uniform, hold elections in 3 months, judiciary was relatively powerful, was there a need to start raising these fine constitutional points and do away with the whole system. True, musharraf was exposed. But at what cost?

Power corrupts, and after eight or ten years in power nobody can be relied on to support democracy. This is why it is so important to limit the term in office of any and every leader to ten years maximum - and eight would be safer.
Also, it should be against the law for a wife or son to immediately succeed a leader, as they will just be figureheads.

Musharraf has committed High Treason by suspending the Constitution.
PCO has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Wishful prayer for Pakistan: “Gen. [the ballless, gutless, guileless] Kiyani arrests Musharraf and holds him on the charge of High Treason, turns over the interim government to a neutral party; Supreme Court and CJP is restored, but the judges who took oath under PCO should be removed permanently.”
The problem is that Musharraf’s current illegal and immoral action is the last straw. It will only further the already deep hatred of the Army within the civil society.
As someone stated earlier, it was extremely disgusting to see Musharraf begging to his White Masters, and trying to appeal to them by saying don’t expect us to act as a civilized and rational people.
How much more can anyone embarrass our entire nation, by labeling us as still brown-neophytes that are a few generations behind the Master White Race in the course of our social and intellectual evolution — who the hell is he to state: “Don’t expect us to be democratic!”
His address was entirely self-contradictory and based in lies, with parts that debased and disdained the entire nation.

He has taken Pakistan to the position of Mayanmar, just to ensure his tenure. In a sense I have sympathy for him. Seems like he doesnt know Politics at all. Now I am quite sure he will be killed. Pakistan cannot go this way. He will be removed in 15-20 days if things continue this way. Geedar ki jab maut ati hai tu shehar ki taraf bhagta hai. He just made useless for himself, all he had achieved in these years. I pitty him.
Our options are not limited to military, BB or NS. New leadership can emerge if free and fair elections are held. Well known lawyers and retired judges can surface as law abiding leaders if given an opportunity. The 164 million people of Pakistan are not all incompetent for anyone to say there are no alternatives.
