Last evening I was walking by The Mall in pindi. I was a little behind the Army Stadium chowk, when I heard the sound of a smash. I looked forward and all I could see in the dark was an Army jeep backing off and then moving forward on The Mall with a bit of pace. I was frowned on this. As I was a little far from the incident, so all I could think of from this was: this jeep hit somebody, and the guy just backed off, and ran away. Ruthlessness, isn’t it, was all I could think.

Literally pissed off, I moved a bit quickly to the place of incident. There were two guys, quite young, sitting by roadside and a black motor bike, with all that bichu stuff painted on its tank. They were rubbing their arms and the stuff. I just got near to them and asked if they were fine? and if they need any help?, to which they said “No thanks”. A traffic police guy, yeah the new generation, was around and was sort of scolding them which surprised me. On my amusement he told, that the signal was red, and these two guys tried to cross the chowk, and as they thought the road is empty, because of red-signal, they were driving on the backwheel only. Yeah they were wheeling as you say it. And as they were wheeling, they smashed into the army jeep coming from the other side. And it was the Good Lord who saved them, otherwise this could have been as tragic as you may think off.

Ruthlessness, isn’t it? Yeah I was thinking the same, but from the other side now. That Army guy might be in hurry or something so he left otherwise this was a case. And these bikers, they give a damn to what could have been the consequences, had they got hit seriously or something. I mean its good to be adventurous, but we should be able to distinguish stupidity from adventure. Wheeling on main city roads, and that too at rush hours, is mare stupidity. If you don’t care about yourself, please learn to care for your parents, who suffer the most in case you get yourself damaged.

A cousin of mine has just recently recovered from injuries that he sustained in a road accident, after spending more than 3 months in hospital, although he was not wheeling or something rather was on duty. And these 3-4 months; don’t ask how the family couped, particularly being outside the city of their residence.

And some part is on the government end as well, as to provide these youngsters proper tracks for this kind of activities. They should be able to do this at a safe place, if they have to. And traffic police should make sure this does not happen on the main roads, and anybody found guilty of this should be fined a handsome amount.

May be we can save some lives?

I remember receiving a promotional text message on my cell from NAB, somewhere in Dec 2007. It was Anti Corruption Day, I think. The sender showed a name “NAB”, and the message preview in my cell was only able to show two words “Corruption You …”. I, like anybody else, got a bit amazed on receiving a text message from NAB starting with the word “Corruption” :) Anyway, I went on to read the message, and it was something on the lines of, “Corruption, your NO counts … “. I was like, “Where did these NAB guys got my number from?” with no obvious answer.

Then it was Jan 2008 when I received a promotional text message from Bonanza, telling that SALE on Bonanza Sweaters was on, and I should not miss this opportunity etc. This time it was from some Warid number.

And a couple of days back it was some web portal using GEO in their name (and they were not GEO TV), advertising their website, right on my cell.

I was wondering that how come such spammers get my, or anybody’s for that matter, cell number. It can’t be easy- load guys, as I don’t remember any such instance when I did easy-load on this number. The first thing that struck my mind was “banks”.

I have been giving my number to banks in account/credit card applications. And I believe they would have plenty of these. Reason for this first hit was that sometime back I received a call from some bank’s sales-rep and he was kind enough to tell me my exact gross salary. I was like WHAT??? How come you know it? To which he was a little puzzled. “We have sources”, he said. And on a bit of bullshitting he disclosed that banks share such information. The next thing was the franchise I purchased this number from. They might have sold the numbers’ list to these guys. And I continued thinking who the real culprit can be?

However, whoever that was, does business ethics allow such things? Can a bank, or any business for that matter, disclose its customers’ confidential information and make money out of it? How shameful a mean to make money from. I don’t know why but somehow we have kept the ethics and moral values aside. We want to make money; whatever it takes. From smaller businesses to larger businesses, all alike, in the same direction. We have stopped realizing that, although money is an important factor in an individual’s day-to-day matters, but its not all about it. There are things much more valuable and worth exhausting all our means for.

O my Lord! Help my people.

Three persons including Lt. General Mushtaq Baig (Army Medical Corps), his driver and guard died in the blast.

Gen. Mushtaq was principal of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi.

Elections were held yesterday throughout Pakistan. Polls were conducted for National Assembly(NA) and Provincial Assemblies on the same day. Quite contrary to what was being suggested by some politicians as well as by the public opinion at large, the day has been peaceful on the whole. There has been some tragedies; firing and a blast, claiming precious lives including those of the candidates as well. In some cities, where political rivalry is quite tense, e.g. Gujrat, there has been heavy firing, but on the whole, the day has been peaceful as compared to what we have seen in recent past.

Unofficial results have started poring in on TV channels. In capital, Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) has the winning score so far in both NA constituencies NA-48, NA-49. In Rawalpindi, the twin city of capital, again its PML-N, with the highest bar so far. In NA-56, Hanif Abbasi (PML-N) is leading with Sardar Shoukat Hayat (PPP) at no 2. Sheikh Rashid (PML-Q), as expected, is no where in the top 2 as of now. In NA-54, Malik Abrar (PML-N), who is also contesting for provincial assembly for PP-10, and is contesting a NA seat for the first time, is leading with Zamorad Khan (PPP) at no 2. There has been no results so far for NA-55, where Makhdum Javed Hashmi (PML-N) is expected to give a tough time to Sheikh Rashid (PML-Q) (who is also contesting from NA-56) and Malik Aamir Fida Paracha (PPP).

Interestingly, in Gujrat, the home constituency of Chaudhary Brothers of PML-Q, Chaudhary Mukhtar (PPP), who is also a cousin, is winning so far. PML-N didn’t appoint any candidate in the constituency.

As per the results so far there are three names coming up, Pakistan Peoples Party / Parliamentarians from Sindh, PML-N from Punjab and Awami National Party (ANP) from NWFP and Balochistan. As the results are neither official nor complete as yet, so nothing can be said for sure. This is just an initial impression.

The results so far are aligned with the general public opinion before elections. And if it continues the same way, it is quite probable that these three parties will be forming a collation government.

We will update this post as soon as the results are complete.

Our sister blogs LMB & KMB have also covered the day.

It was just last night when I tried to connect to MBL’s public server for COD2, and the server refused my connection. Yeah they have upgraded to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.

I am yet to see the game, but the reviews and trailer suggest it to be a good experience. Earlier versions were based on stories and maps from World War II. COD4 MW, as the name suggests, is about modern warfare. There are new maps including those from Middle East. Somebody was telling that you hear the sounds of Azan coming in the background on Middle East maps.

So if you have recently got the COD4 DVD, and are wondering as to whom to play with, there you go. Thanks to MBL for keeping it free.
