2009 Budget Presentation by a Woman

Many kinds of histories would have been made this Saturday on June 13, 2009. But the most significant one of them all, that I can think of, was that the budget of Pakistan was delivered for the first time by a woman in the history of Pakistan. The lady who delivered the budget speech was Hina Rabbani Khar, who is the Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs of Pakistan. She did it for the first time and did a fine job with the presentation. It was an honor for the women of Pakistan. It was indeed another major milestone, representative of the women empowerment (in a good sense).

May the women of Pakistan play their role to the fullest in the progress and prosperity of the motherland. Ameen.

For more details on the budget presentation and the budget text itself, please see the following links:

PS: What actually “was” in the budget is a story for several new posts. ;-)

Better late than never…

They say that justice delayed is justice denied.

The Chief justice has been reinstated.

People all over Pakistan are celebrating, and I had a sigh of relief as well keeping in mind that I feared loads of bloodshed today.

But -albeit this being a success for the people of Pakistan in getting their voice turned to practical results – the question still remains that like it’s not advisable to keep all eggs in a basket – is expecting so much from a single person an intelligent expectation?

When will we place into action the processes that will streamline justice and that will let us have the leadership that is for the people, by the people and of the people instead of “far the people, buy the people and off the people”!

God bless Pakistan!

Bhutto Coin?

*screams*

So Quaid’s on a Re. 1 coin and Ms. Bhutto will get a Re.10 one. Yup that’s the news.

BBC reports:

Pakistan is to issue a commemorative coin to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

The State Bank of Pakistan will issue about 300,000 special 10-rupee (16 US cents) coins.

The coin will read in Urdu, “Daughter of the East, Benazir Bhutto“.

Ms Bhutto was killed in a suicide bomb and gun attack in Rawalpindi on 27 December last year after an election rally for her Pakistan People’s Party.

The coin will be issued on 27 December, the bank announced.

Ms Bhutto has already had Islamabad’s international airport named after her, along with a hospital in Rawalpindi and a key road.

Argh.

Hoax can Trigger War?

If one is hardy fool, why not?

An interesting piece that captured my eye in today’s Dawn ….

Nuclear-armed Pakistan went into a state of ‘high alert’ last weekend and was eyeing India for possible signs of military aggression, after a threatening phone call made to President Asif Ali Zardari by someone from Delhi who posed himself as the Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Whether it was mere mischief or a sinister move by someone in the Indian external affairs ministry, or the call came from within Pakistan, remains unclear, and is still a matter of investigation. But several political, diplomatic and security sources have confirmed to Dawn that for nearly 24 hours over the weekend the incident continued to send jitters across the world. To some world leaders the probability of an accidental war appeared very high.

Sensational Reporting

Wow

Now that’s something I call reporting. Sensationalizing the whole experience.

Sleepy nights of  Isloo turns into coma.

Haa!

Siyasi Eid Mubarak

So the Ruyete Halal Committee at last announce that the Shawaal moon’s been sighted and It’s eid here in Pakistan, all over Pakistan, on 1st October. The announcement came at around 11 PM.

The possibilities of moon sighting were near to zero. Saudi Arabia announced the moon sighting yesterday and it was Eid in middle east. A minister in Frontier announced that there are 15 witnesses of moon sighting with him and he announced Eid without Ruyete Halal Committee’s consent. In my opinion, to erase the conflict the Committe decided to have Eid in Pakistan unanimously. Hence it’s tomorrow.

Eid Mubarak!

May the day brings lots of happiness for Pakistan and us all!

Resigned

Sigh.

So Musharaf resigned.

Should Musharraf Resign?

Musharaf’s Address Today & Resignation(?)

News are Musharaf will address nation at 1 PM today and MAY announce his resignation. End of 9 years reign. Before the impeachment process begins.

Do you think he should step down? But then does his presence makes any difference? or his absence for that matter?

Who would YOU prefer as your next president? Zardari, nawaz Sharif? or some other newly transformed hunk (sigh).

Please tell why you say Musharraf should resign and why not.

ps: For some weird reason the poll i created is not getting embed in.

Impeach him.. what a great idea

loadshedding, inflationary food prices, petrol out of reach and a growing poverty line thats sending people to suicide – these are obviously far less important than what our “great leaders” Nawaz,Zardari have got planned.
Lo and behold they have (after months of meetings and more meetings …) decided to go for a half-baked impeachment plan.
Unfortunately, we have to watch these clowns play political games while the country is diving into dangerous waters.
Firstly, I dont believe impeaching him will get rid of him and it definately won’t mean justice for all those people who have suffered by his evil policies which have brought us to this weak position the country is in.
Today I heard how all Punjabi students have left/are leaving universities in Quetta for sheer fear that they might be killed. It was Mush that said “we will hit them and they wont even know where it will come from… ” or some dribble like that when talking about AkbarBugti and his clan. Well who is paying for brash statements like that – us. Our Pakistan needs major band aid and a unifying call from the current leadership… instead they want to play politics while the vast majority are not interested and dont have the basic needs met.
I want to see real justice done to Musharaf not some weak half-baked impeachment charges which he will manage to squirm out of.
