Aga Khan University Examination Board

– Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKUEB) said that it would start practice exam of 9th class from 10th May 2006.
It also said that for first time in country’s history, the AKU Examinations Board is introducing customized copy that would be printed with answers, questions, names, pictures and other details of the candidate on one sheet to avoid irregularity in the result.
An official of AKUEB told The Nation that it has finalized all arrangements to take first exam on rehearsal basis from May and full-fledged examination process will be started from May 2007.

The official said that they are going to introduce bar code at every page of the customized copy of the exam and e-marking system in the coming test examination of 9th class from May 10 for achieving better results.
To stop cheating in the examination process, AKUEB has also decided to provide seating arrangements at all the Centres where test examination is going to be held in all over the country.
The Board has finalized its arrangements to take listening exam in the compulsory subjects like English, Urdu and Sindhi to improve the listening and speaking skills of the students in these languages. The Board said that the listening programme is a part of national curricula but was not being implemented in the country.
Over 114 private schools were affiliated with AKU-Exam Board from all over the country. AKUEB is the 28th exam board but the first ever imitative in the private sector.
However, there are 27-examination boards already operating in the country.
The Board has estimated that after a period of five years, AKUEB will be able to conduct examination for about 27,000 students which is only 2 percent of the total number all those students enrolled in private and public sectors schools. AKU-EB will utilize state-of-the-art public examination practices.
New technology will provide the written answer of each question separately to several evaluators for marking, thereby ensuring that the evaluators cannot identify the candidate and enabling correlation of the marks for consistency.
The technology will assist the elimination of bias, curb dishonest practices, and greatly speed up the processes of verification and compilation of scores so that the results can be announced in six weeks.
The general objective of the AKU-EB is to design and offer high quality public examinations in English and Urdu based on the national curriculum for secondary and higher secondary education.
It will also arrange for training of teachers, and for appropriate learning materials to prepare teachers and students for the new examination system. It is intended to serve as a model of internationally recognized good practice in order to enhance the country’s capacity for educational assessment and tests, and therefore to improve the quality of education in schools, and through them, the quality of education in the national universities.
