Pakistani Phd scholars for Geneva

Pakistani students will be enrolled for PhD programmes in the University of Geneva under a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Higher Education Commission and the Faculty of Sciences, University of Geneva. HEC spokesman in a statement here Thursday said that “The MoU” was signed by, Prof. AndrĂ© Hurst, Rector of the University and Prof. Pierre Spierer, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences. The ceremony was attended by Ms. Fauzia Abbas, and Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi Minister (Technical), Permanent Mission of Pakistan to UN in Geneva.

He said that Under the provisions of the MoU, the HEC will shortlist a mutually agreed number of candidates each year from 2006 to 2010 from universities/colleges and R&D organizations of Pakistan to pursue PhD studies in the Faculty of Sciences, University of Geneva.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Fauzia Abbas noted that changes were taking place in the higher education sector in Pakistan. She said a phenomenal increase of 1200% in educational budget has been witnessed during the last few years. Dr. I. E. Qureshi presented a brief introduction of the revolutionary steps taken by the HEC, since its inception in 2002, to revitalize higher education in general, and the education of Science and Technology in particular.
